2024 Pillsbury State Park Adventures

Pillsbury State Park in Washington, NH is our favorite close-o-home getaway with one of the best campsites we've stayed at anywhere in the country.
In 2024 we camped and paddled at Pillsbury a couple of times. I (Mary) brought my sister, Anne, and my friend, Marion, to our favorite site for a couple nights of camping and paddling in the autumn. It was the first such adventure for the three of us.
In spite of some moist weather, we managed to get in some paddling and walked through the beautiful fall woods. The red maples, hobblebush and Indian cucumber were in full autumn color. Back at the campsite, pastries were eaten and games were played.
Following are a few snaps of the scenery at and around our campsite.

Another first at Pillsbury State Park in 2024 was Sylvie's first paddling adventure in the summer of that year. Given that she's from El Paso, it seems unlikely that Sylvie had done any paddling prior to coming into our lives. There were a harrowing couple of moments when she fell into the pond and then got her leg stuck in her floatation device, which kept her from being able to surface from underwater. Glen grabbed her and hauled her into Mary's boat. Other than that, she did very well on the trip and excelled at sleeping in the tent, claiming my mattress and sleeping bag as her own.
Following is a compilation of photos taken at on Sylvie's maiden voyage.

Notable vegetation included hobblebush, Indian cucumber, steeplebush, and whorled aster, as well a cluster of violet oil beetles feeding on some Clintonia.

We hiked up to Lucia's Lookout on Five Summers Trail, taking in the view at the top.
